PURPOSE OF THE INSTITUTE

The National Institute for the Word of God is dedicated to the service
of the Church to beget and nourish faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
through preaching and liturgy.  It exists to help bishops, priests and laity
become more firmly rooted in the Word of God and, therefore, more effective
preachers of and witnesses to the life-giving Gospel of Jesus Christ.

PREACHING IS THE PRIMARY WORK OF THE CHURCH!

St. Paul teaches: Faith comes from what is preached, and what is preached is the word of Christ (Rom 10:17). Translating that into ministry today, the Second Vatican Council taught: Since no one can be saved who has not first believed, priests, as co-workers with their bishops, have as their primary duty the proclamation of the Gospel of God to all. . . . Thus they establish and build up the People of God (PO #4).

How do we answer this call?

All preachers and witnesses need to know the Sacred Scriptures in order to proclaim Jesus in power and call people to faith. Because a firm grounding in Scripture is necessary to establish, develop and sustain effective programs in faith, we seek to provide great resources for bishops, priests and laity to grow in their knowledge of and love for the Word of God
